Day 4: Wedding Day!

 Day 4: Wedding Day

Today is the day!

April, Anna, Jennifer, Brian and I had breakfast with Eric at the Hotel Bauer. The dining area is directly on the Grand Canal and the view is spectacular. It has been very sunny and hot, with a drought across much of Italy. However, the forecast includes a chance of showers at the very time of the wedding ceremony...

After breakfast, April and I needed to go to the train station to make some arrangements for the next part of our trip. We decided to learn how to use the local public water taxi system. Our hotel concierge suggested we walk to the Rialto Bridge and take Line 2 directly to the station. There is a closer water stop to our hotel for Line 1, but it has multiple stops along the way and takes 45 minutes to get the rail station. Line 2 takes nine...

It was a fun challenge to navigate the narrow streets of Venice to get to Rialto bridge. Google maps loses service in the little streets, so you have to get to an open intersection before Google maps catches up to your location and tells you how many wrong turns you took while the service was out.

    Typical Venetian "street"

April was very keen to see the Venice Opera House. It is magnificent:

After getting back from the train station, we cleaned up and hit the wedding venue at the St. Regis. The place looked amazing, and we tried to class it up ourselves!

The cocktail hour was brief, which was smart if Eric and Michelle expected the guests to be polite during the ceremony...

    Eric and Best Man Spencer
    Solid

Guest taking pictures of guests! (Rich and Vicki)

Robin and Vic (How is Robin so handsome?)

    Anna!

Michelle, Connor, Cooper. It's getting serious...

    Oh, it's on!

    It's official!
Turns out it's not official. They had to do paperwork!!!

    Kate!

    Beautiful decorations

    Dinner location

After many pictures, it's the couple!

Mom made an appearance by FaceTime! Folks passed the phone around the table and she was able to greet everyone. It was very sweet!

Cocktails and dancing ensued. What a great ending, which is really only the beginning.
