Day 7 Our Final Day in Kona

On Day 7, we made a beeline for the beach.  The Magic Sands Beach is terrific, although some of the locals refer to it as "Tragic Ends Beach" because of the occasional big wave that drills swimmers. By this time, the boys were confident in the surf and we could remain on the beach without worry as we watched them swim.  It was great for everyone.

The kids had plenty of building time in the sand as well.

It was great for John to come to the beach.  He spent a lot of time in the water with the kids, with Scotty and just chillin' on his own.  Very relaxing.

After a full day in the sun, we prepared for the luau that was rained out on Wednesday night.  This was a great way to end the trip, a Friday night event out.

 Everyone was looking great.

The pooka shell necklaces were popular

We enjoyed a beautiful sunset with some pre-dinner hula entertainment.

Before dinner, we had a chance to explore a little. April and the boys found the pit with the covered pig for dinner.

The luau dinner was terrific.  Garrett tried poy and was less than impressed with the glue-like substance.  Owen was more direct in criticizing the poy when he said it was "crotchy."  The boys enjoyed the teriyaki beef for dinner.  Owen also experimented with poke and thought it was great. We definitely need to bring that recipe back to Sacramento.  Garrett declared the coconut cake to be "disgusting" and proceeded to overindulge in the jello.

After the dinner, the tour of the pacific islands began.  Very talented entertainers.

The event was a great way to end the trip.  Seven full days of relaxing in Kona, in a great place with fun people.  Hopefully the kids will remember the trip. It was a great way to honor Scott's 70th birthday.
